Lawton Street Becomes Two-Way Beginning October 2
Change increases traffic flow in Downtown; Church Street between Main Street and Clinton Place also converted.

In an effort to provide better vehicular access to businesses and parking facilities in the Downtown, Lawton Street will be changed from one-way to two-way access beginning October 2. Variable Messaging Signs have been placed on Main Street near Pintard and Huguenot Street at Lawton Street to advise motorists of the conversion. The portion of Church Street between Main Street and Clinton Place will also become two-way on this date.

“Opening these important thoroughfares will improve traffic flow throughout the downtown, and make access to parking easier,” said Councilmember Ivar Hyden.

Motorists and pedestrians in these areas are urged to exercise caution in the area while the new traffic pattern gets established.

Note from the BID:

The BID supported Councilman Ivar Hyden's efforts and the two way streets were a recommendation of the BID’s parking study which will also resulted in increased on street parking spaces and expanded use of technology later this year to make parking easier.
