| Coromandel Cuisine of India
Baltimore, MD native Jon Rodriguez and New Rochellean Meghan Rock met while living and working in New York City as media executives in the television industry. Now residents of Trump Plaza for a little more than a year, they regularly enjoy walking in the Downtown- especially en route to dinner at one of the BID’s fabulous restaurants. Read what they love about one of their favorites, Coromondel:
Last year we moved from New York City to Trump Plaza in downtown New Rochelle. In New York we enjoyed dining out, something we can continue to do easily in downtown New Rochelle. We are lucky to have a wide range of restaurants to which we can walk and are certainly happy that Coromandel is one of them. Located just behind Avalon on the Sound East, on Division Street, which the New Rochelle BID has actively been restoring, Coromandel has become one of our favorite restaurants in New Rochelle.
Coromandel's storefront follows the design of Division Street’s clean look and modern motif. The front is dominated by a huge front window that provides an open feel when dining in. Upon walking into the restaurant, you are immediately greeted by a host. On busy nights you may wait for a table at the bar and enjoy an Indian Beer. For others, the bar is a great area to socialize and watch the game on the two televisions. Once seated, you’ll quickly notice the bright and colorful motif of the restaurant. Our favorite is the booth table by the window. It’s great for people watching!
The service at Coromandel is very well staffed. Aside from your main waiter, who is very attentive, there is another person (maybe a manager) who will check on you throughout the meal. When seated, the wait staff immediately brings traditional sauces and papad (my personal favorite) to the table.
Of course the main reason we go to the restaurant is the food. The restaurant offers choices for the novice Indian food eater, to the more experienced eater. Meghan's favorite dish is the chicken tika masala. Being new to Indian food, this is a perfect dish. My favorite dish is the fish curry. I like my dishes spicy and this doesn't disappoint. All entrees are served with traditional rice which is delicious on its own but we also recommend ordering a side of Nan, which Coromandel has a large selection of.
Whether a table for two or a large party, Coromandel can accommodate any size crowd and provide a food experience that every guest will love. The restaurant even offers a large room for private parties. Meghan and I highly recommend Coromandel to all that live in New Rochelle and the surrounding areas and we hope to see you there soon!
