“BID Family Saturdays” Event Grows to include Live Performances

BIDFamSatLogoGrey.jpgThe Kick-off Event for the BID Family Saturdays, to take place on September 29 from 1:00 pm in Library Green, will include several live performances to entertain all ages. From 1:15–2:00 pm children’s entertainer Zev Haber will perform a sing-and-play-along with his guitar and banjo, while the Acme Clown Company delights the crowd with hilarious “artistic antics”, juggling and tricks. From 2:00–2:30 pm, Master Bom Jesus and his students will demonstrate the amazing dance and martial art form of Brazilian Capoeira, accompanied by drums and traditional instruments. The free event will also include face-painting, storybook characters, and take-home projects. The party will be held in the New Rochelle Public Library in the event of rain.

BIDFamGutrPnkGrl.jpgThe “BID Family Saturdays”, which began during 2006 -2007 school year, will again include International Mini-Fests, performances, craft workshops, scavenger hunts, and other activities geared for school-aged children and their parents. The programs take place several Saturdays each month in the Ossie Davis Park at Library Green or the New Rochelle Public Library, through June 28, 2008. Students in the New Rochelle schools have received a BID Family Saturdays Passport they may bring to each event for a “stamp”.

An initiative of the New Rochelle Downtown BID (Business Improvement District), the “BID Family Saturdays” program is conducted in partnership with the Public Library, the City School District and PTA Council, and the Department of Parks & Recreation.
