BID Family Day   Mini-Renaissance Faire  One City, One Book Kick-off
The BID Family mini-Renaissance Fair was enjoyed by over 550 people of all ages on Sunday, April 3.

Kicking off the Sound Shore Shakespeare festival, the event immersed participants in activities of the Elizabethan time.
The New Rochelle-based Ballet Atlantic performed exquisite excepts from Romeo and Juliet and Midsummer Night’s Dream. Live hip hop renditions of Shakespeare by members of the Point of Entry Theater Company delighted young and old alike, as did a concert of early music performed by Melissa the Loud on the hurdy gurdy.

Throughout the afternoon, everyone had a chance to try his or her hand at spinning and basket weaving, and to view a demoEvents_Mini-Ren_2011_4.jpgnstration of stone carving.

Hair garland for girls – and “manly” versions for boys, illuminated letters and mini-shields were take-home craft projects completed by over 280 young damsels and knights.

All free activities were made possible by the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District, the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library and the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation.
