Over 300 children “Rode the Reading Wave” on Saturday, June 28th at the New Rochelle Public Library’s BID Family Day Kick-off event for the 2010 Summer Reading Game and programs. Large, richly painted puppets enchanted families outside on Library Green during a performance of the “Turtle Island Medicine Show” by the Arm-of-the-Sea Puppet Theater. Inside the library children registered for the library’s “Splash Into Summer Reading” game and received colorful reading logs to keep track of books they read. The BID teen assistants and teachers helped participants decorate a canvas book bag, rain stick, water critter mask and sand art project. These activities were just a sampling of the many free workshops and performances being offered at both the main library and Huguenot Children’s Library, from July 6th through August 18th, A full listing is available on the library’s website: www.nrpl.org or by visiting the libraries.
