In case you missed the annual New Rochelle house tour Sunday, the two fully decorated apartments that were part of the Sound Shore Medical Center-sponsored tour will be open for free public viewing until Dec. 4. Apartments 23K and 24A in the new 40-story Avalon on the Sound East take center stage as part of the Downtown Showcase, organized by the New Rochelle Business Improvement District.
Ralph DiBart, executive director of the BID, came up with the idea of getting six local designers to decorate the two- and three-bedroom apartments to shed light on some of the new businesses which have emerged in downtown New Rochelle. To drive that point home, DiBart insisted that everything the designers used to decorate the two apartments had to come from downtown businesses. A few years ago, that might have been an insurmountable design challenge, given all the empty storefronts in the center of the city.
Now showcase visitors can see for themselves what the designers used from these shops and businesses: antiques and chandeliers from Consign It on Main, new furniture from TF Andrew Carpet One, accent pillows from Lumia Decorators, draperies from the Curtain Shop, artwork from the Backstreet Gallery.Rochelle and Rock Davenport, the imaginary couple in 24A, the two-bedroom unit on display, are a little younger and hipper. They don't have children, so designer Chenoa Maxwell turned the unit's second bedroom into a home office for Rochelle, a professional photographer.
As part of the New Rochelle BID Downtown Showcase, the Avalon on the Sound East will have two expertly decorated apartments - 23K and 24A - on display. Want to take a look?
