More than 250 people attended the opening of a new art show, "Urban Magic",
featuring the work of three New Rochelle artists, Ace Lemelle-Thomas, Joy Malone and Jesse Sanchez, Saturday, September 12th at BID Gallery 542. Many who visited also attended open artist studios at 81 Centre Avenue, the Terracotta Studio Building, as well as local restaurants.
Som Nagpal of Rangoli Indian Cuisine stated: "The arts and dining are proving to be a great combination for downtown. We had customers who came to our restaurant after the show and claimed that it was a totally enjoyable Main Street evening."
Ivar Hyden of Backstreet gallery who curated the show stated: " 'Urban Magic' offers urban reflections from Broadways' theater row to downtown New Rochelle, from the lyrical to hip-hop, from dark streets to unabashed beauty as interpreted by the artists in photography, pen and ink, and mixed media (oils, acrylic, canvas, paper and ink). This contemporary show features some of New Rochelle's most talented rising stars."
Assembly Member George S. Latimer attended the opening and presented each artist with a certificate of merit from the NY State Assembly for their work in "Urban Magic".
