Following the success of the BID’s first art gallery show and downtown Art Walk a new art show, “Urban Magic”, featuring the work of three New Rochelle artists Ace Lemelle-Thomas, Joy Malone and Jesse Sanchez, will open on Saturday, September 12th at BID Gallery 542 with a public reception from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. After the reception the gallery will remain open to the public on Saturdays from Noon to 5:00 PM through November 3rd.
“Urban Magic", curated by Ivar Hyden an artist and the owner of Backstreet Gallery, a downtown gallery and framing store at 43 Lawton Street, reflects and comments on urban life: from Broadways' theater row to downtown New Rochelle, from the lyrical to hip-hop, from dark streets to unabashed beauty as interpreted by the artists in photography, pen and ink, and mixed media (oils, acrylic, canvas, paper and ink). Ivar Hyden stated: “This is a contemporary show featuring some of New Rochelle’s most talented rising stars. It is not to be missed!”
BID Gallery 542 is located in the award winning historic “New Rochelle Bank” building at 542 Main Street. The space is on loan to the BID by Cornell-Pace Management Company. BID Executive Director Ralph DiBart stated: “The BID wanted to create an art space to help anchor our emerging downtown arts district and to create an attraction to bring the community to Main Street. More than 300 people (see video clip) attended our first opening and then visited nearby stores and restaurants. The public comments were overwhelming enthusiastic and asked for more downtown events.”
BID Gallery 542 is sponsored by Cornell-Pace Management Company, the New Rochelle Business Retention Fund and the New Rochelle BID.
