New Rochelle's Business Improvement District has launched "Dine Downtown 2009" campaign to encourage the public to visit the city's emerging restaurant district.

The campaign's first program, "Discover, Dine and Save with BID Sawbucks," will run through May 31. The Sawbucks, designed "$10 bills," can be redeemed at dinner on Monday through Thursday evenings at 10 participating restaurants.

The BID sent out 20,000 "stimulus" packages, each containing $100 in BID Sawbucks, for diners to use at Mo's New York Grill, Rangoli Indian Cuisine, Posto 22 Italian Restaurant, Little Mexican Cafe, Brickyard Bistro, Coromandel Cuisine of India, La Herradura I Mexican Restaurant, Gnarly Vine Wine Café, Bella Bella Italian Restaurant, and Coyote Flaco Mexican Cuisine.

BID Sawbucks can also be downloaded at www.NewRochelleDowntown.com .

Other events to promote downtown dining will include a May 29 fundraiser for the New Rochelle Public Library at Avalon on the Sound's Top of the Roc, which will feature a Taste of Downtown New Rochelle and a Wine Tasting with AOC Wines, a new business. The BID's annual outdoor concerts, held Thursday evenings in July, will feature restaurant promotions, and the BID plans to launch its first Restaurant Week in the fall.
