Becoming a Better You!

What goals are you setting for 2018?

We know that getting into better shape is a goal for many. Here’s a reminder of downtown establishments selling wellness services or products that can help you on your journey:

Modell’s: This large regional chain located at the New Roc center sells a variety of fitness clothes and shoes for men, women AND kids, as well as an extensive supply of sporting equipment, ranging from baseball gloves to hand weights to yoga mats.

The Loop (455 main street): Offers a variety of workout clothes and shoes for men’s, women’s and kids.

GNC: On North Ave, just off of Main, GNC sells a variety of vitamins, supplements, protein bars and more.

New York Sports Clubs: New Rochelle’s own location of the popular sports club with more than 150 sites. NYSC has a wide variety of classes help meet any fitness goal. Local amenities at the New Ro site include a basketball court and sports club for kids, plus babysitting services for kids

Champs Boxing Club: Punch your way to better fitness. Boxing is an excellent sport for cardio, strength-training, balance and much more. At Champs Boxing Club, you’ll work with world-class trainers using the gym’s two boxing rings, a variety of punching bags, free weights and more.

Westchester Yoga Arts: Yoga here is more than an activity – it’s a community. The studio promotes health living while offering classes in yoga, bellydance and Zumba.

Dance Connection: Quickstep your way to better fitness with dance classes at a downtown New Rochelle mainstay for almost two decades. Led by expert dance instructor Linda Andrews, the school offers classes in swing, salsa, rumba and a host of other styles. It may take two to tango (also taught here), but no partner is needed to sign up.

New Beginnings Performing Arts Studio:What better way to start the year than with a dance school called New Beginnings? With a focus on performance, the school offers classes in Afro-Caribbean, body conditioning, hip-hop, line-dancing, jazz, and more. They also offer a fitness class called Ballet Booty Bootcamp.

Of course, what you put into your body matters too. If you’ve ever thought about dipping a toe into the vegan waters, make it a resolution to swing by Jolo’s which aims to “serve healthy meals made with fresh plant-based ingredients, and surprisingly realistic and delicious “veggie meats”.

And, it’s never too early to pencil in the June 2nd opening date for the New Rochelle Grand Market, where you can buy healthy vegetables, enjoy healthful cooking demonstrations, browse our rolling cart of healthy cookbooks, and spend some time outside soaking up vitamin D and playing ping pong or cornhole with your neighbors.

Whoops! We Completely Forgot to Show You This!

Late last spring we got to explore a hidden place many don’t know exists, the vast storeroom of used and donated books managed by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library. Those books for sale you see in the Friends of the Library bookstore on the ground floor? That’s only a fraction of the books that will eventually go on sale.  Below the ground floor is a cavernous room with thousands upon thousands of unique books that need to be classified, priced and sorted before going upstairs. How We’re Planning for 2018…

Here at the BID we have a lot on our plate for 2018. Here’s a few things we’re hoping to achieve in the New Year:

A New Website. Our current website has a treasure trove of information, but we admit...it’s a little “old-school” in the aesthetics department. We’re working on a fresh redesign in order to adequately showcase our existing base of businesses and community treasures, and to keep you informed of great downtown additions and news to come.

Preparing for a Greater Grand Market. 2017 was one of our most successful Grand Markets yet, but we still have ideas for improvement. This year we hope to recruit additional new vendors and to add additional fun activities for the adults too, which was a top request in our customer satisfaction survey.

Become “THE place” for Downtown New Rochelle Information: We are working extra hard to bring you the latest news regarding downtown developments, new business openings and deep-dives into the community members that make our downtown tick. In the coming year, we hope to increase subscribers to these newsletters social media. You can help: if you know somebody new to town who would benefit from our communications, please forward this newsletter to them or invite them to follow our social media accounts: BID Facebook, BID Instagram, New Rochelle Grand Market Facebook, New Rochelle Grand Market Instagram

We look forward to sharing a prosperous and fun 2018 with you, our downtown New Rochelle community!
