Start Planning for the Holidays...downtown can help!

‘Tis the season to be jolly...and to get some holiday shopping done. One gift you can give to your community is the gift of shopping local. So this season, would you consider buying some of the items on your list from downtown businesses? It’s such an easy way to make a positive impact on your local economy. Here are just a few ideas:

You’ll find plenty of great teacher gifts at LITTLE Beehive at the New Rochelle train station. Honey lavender loofah scrubs, cute pouches in eclectic fabrics, adorable clutches, fun socks and glass cheese plates are just a few of the gems that owners Dawn Manwaring and Melanie Reichler offer. LITTLE Beehive, in partnership with the City of New Rochelle, is also hosting a fun and festive new outdoor market featuring many local artisans and vendors Thursdays, December 7th, 14, and 21 from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. right next to the store. And don’t miss LITTLE Beehive’s Grand Opening celebration and ribbon cutting this Thursday (Nov. 30th) from 5-6 p.m. with Mayor Bramson and the Chamber.

Toys abound at Toy Land (188 North Avenue) where we found a cute kid’s weaving loom, a mini drum set and the popular Melissa and Doug, Lego and Playmobile lines. For educational stocking stuffers, consider popping into Educational Tools ‘N Toys at 572 Main Street for a selection of stickers, art supplies and bilingual educational games.

Game Stop has games and consoles of course, but also fun pop culture gifts (like Dr. Who socks!). If you’re shopping for a gourmand, the Monroe College Barnes and Noble has a nice selection of cookbooks, which makes sense, considering that the Culinary Institute of New York at Monroe College is ranked in the top twenty culinary schools nationwide.

Creative individuals might appreciate arts supplies from Art & Blueprint (242 North Avenue) or custom framing of the nice piece they created at the same store. Backstreet Gallery also provides custom framing services. We’ll provide a list of area restaurants and retailers offering gift cards in a future newsletter.
