Property owners throughout downtown are restoring the facades of their buildings, a sign of the growing confidence in Downtown’s economic renaissance. The BID has created Façade Renovation Standards to insure that restoration projects preserve the historic character of buildings and create an inviting streetscape. Many projects are being assisted by the BID Façade Improvement Program which has obtained matching grant funds from the NYS Housing Trust Fund, the Empire State Development Corporation, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal and the City of New Rochelle. The BID, working with the Community Preservation Corporation, has also developed an innovative façade loan program enabling downtown building owners to obtain ten-year façade loans at an interest rate of only 3 percent.
