Events_Day-of-dead.jpgWhat: Exhibit and Free Programs

Day of the Dead Exhibit created by local artists, with a 10’ high “Tree of Life” and ofrenda (altar), over-sized papier mâché figures, and traditional symbols of the Day of the Dead, as celebrated in Mexico. Library Lobby.

Exhibit Schedule:
Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday, November 3, 1:00 – 5:00 pm
Monday, November 4 and Tuesday, November 5, 9:00 am – 8:00 pm

Day of the Dead Family Craft Session
All ages are invited to create family tree booklets, Monarch butterflies, skull boxes, and frames to hang on the Tree of Life, or to take home. Library Meeting Room.
Friday, November 1st, 3:30 – 4:50 pm.

Day of the Dead Performance and Reception
•    Mazarte Dance Group performance of traditional and costumed Mexican dances
Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis, to the capacity of the Ossie Davis Theater.
•    Mariachi Flor de Toache, a five-piece mariachi group of female musicians. Theater and Lobby.
•    Refreshments, Library Lobby
Saturday, November 2nd, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

The Saturday evening program is one in the series, “BID Family Days Go Global for the 325th Anniversary!” An initiative of the New Rochelle Downtown BID (Business Improvement District), the “BID Family Day” program is a partnership with the New Rochelle Public Library, the City School District and PTA Council, and the Department of Parks & Recreation.
