BID Downtown Open Artist Studios and National Circus Project
The arts are expanding in downtown New Rochelle with help from the BID Artist Spaces Program which has assisted in the creation of 40 artist work studios, especially in buildings with long term vacant upper floor space. To introduce the public to the Artist Spaces Program the BID is hosting a BID Downtown Open Artist Studios event in conjunction with the New Rochelle Arts Council ArtsFest. As part of this arts celebration, BID Family Days will showcase the circus arts by hosting the National Circus Project with circus performers on the streets downtown entertaining children of all ages.
More than fifty downtown and guest artists will showcase their work in downtown studios as part of the New Rochelle BID Downtown Open Artist Studios. The dates are:
• Thursday evening, September 20th, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM; • Friday evening, September 21st, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM; and • Saturday, September 22nd, from 12:30 to 7:00 PM.
Refreshments will be served on Thursday and Friday evenings. On Saturday afternoon, families can enjoy jugglers, fire-spinners, unicyclists, and clowns as they walk through downtown as part of the BID Family Day National Circus Project and come downtown on the Hop-on/Hop-off ArtsFest Trolley.
Many downtown artists will showcase their work in their downtown studios. In addition, as part of this special event, the BID has organized a series of curated art exhibits featuring artists from regional art schools, galleries and associations.
Downtown Councilman Ivar Hyden stated “I am delighted that the BID Artist Spaces Program has been so successful. I have long felt that creating an arts district in the heart of downtown New Rochelle would be the key to revitalization. We are now well on our way to creating an arts hub that will attract not only artists, but their clients and friends as well as patrons for our excellent and diverse restaurants, galleries and retail businesses.”
Mayor Noam Bramson noted that “The arts are a proven engine of economic growth and community vitality. The BID’s Artist Spaces Program helps strengthen New Rochelle’s identity as a cultural destination, while also ensuring that creative expression will be a key part of our vision for the future. “
BID Executive Director Ralph DiBart noted that the Downtown BID Artist Spaces Program is offering seven new artist spaces with outstanding light for rent. Interested artists should send inquires to firstname.lastname@example.org.
