by Anne and Arnie Sternheim
September 1, 2009

Anne and Arnie Sternheim have lived in the Queen City for 23 years, raising two sons and taking advantage of the excellent schools and sports programs. The city's proximity to New York made New Rochelle ideal for Anne, a freelance copywriter, and Arnie, a financial risk manager.  The Sternheim’s recently dined at Posto 22 on Division Street which been beautifully transformed thanks to the New Rochelle BID’s Facade Program. BestBets_posto22.jpgOne recent August evening, we decided to make a reservation at Posto 22 in downtown New Rochelle.  As big fans of Italian food, we were very excited to try this recent addition to the city’s ever burgeoning dining scene.

Upon arriving, we immediately knew we were in for a great time.  The bar and tables were rapidly filling with guests who clearly frequent Posto 22.  Everyone who walked through the door —including newcomers like us—was warmly welcomed by restaurant owner, Joseph Napolitano. As the proprietor of popular Avenue Deli and Eatery on North, Joseph has many dedicated customers who love his food, and it’s no wonder that Posto 22 has been a hit since opening in September 2008.

Joseph showed us to a comfortable table and within moments, the friendly server took our drink orders and presented us with menus. The service was gracious and well paced, and we took the time to observe our surroundings.

The inviting space has a laid back, modern elegance that combines warm shades of cream, yellow, and wine; soft lighting; and walls adorned with vintage photos of Italian food-related themes and shelves with bottles of wine.

In addition to the main dining room, Posto 22 has a separate back room for dining and private parties and an outdoor patio. You can enjoy drinks and even dinner at the bar where many like to watch sports on the flat screen televisions.  Every wine on the extensive list is available both by the bottle and the glass and the martini menu is impressive.

The Posto 22 menu has something for everyone and every budget.  Along with classic Italian dishes like spaghetti and mini meatballs, chicken parmigiana, and veal piccata, you’ll find inventive specialties. We started with one of the restaurant’s famous thin crust pizzas: the margherita with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil. Next we ordered pan seared parmesan crusted halibut served over spinach and artichoke crusted chicken breast with pancetta Marsala sauce. Everything was delicious. If you prefer lighter fare, the menu features salads and soups. A children's menu is also available.

As an established restaurateur, Joseph Napolitano knows how to make his customers happy and coming back for more. “Some nights, people just come in for pizza with the family. On another night, the adults come for a three course meal. We have a menu that meets every kind of experience,” explains Joseph.

Delicious food, a friendly welcome, and a relaxed experience make Posto 22 a New Rochelle standout.
