LIBRARY’S SUMMER READING Over 350 children signed-up for the New Rochelle Public Library’s Summer Reading Program at the June 23rd BID Family Day Kick-off Party held on Library Green. The sun shone brightly and the cool breeze made for a perfect afternoon of games, music, crafts, and old-fashioned summertime fun. Musician Louie Miranda entertained children, parents and grandparents with his amusing songs, parachute game, puppets and interactive performances. BID staff members helped children paint watercolor scenes, decorate visors, make paper flowers and twirling ladybugs, and create fabulous bubbles. Signing-up for the “Dream Big: Read!” Summer Reading Game, children received materials to keep track of the books they read so that they can win prizes throughout the summer and be invited to the culmination parties in August. The library’s free summer programs, which are designed to enrich and engage children of all ages, will take place at the main library and the Huguenot Children’s Library, from July 2 – August 10. Performances, craft workshops, chess, films, and other activities that are as enjoyable as they are educational will help young people to soak up fun and good books. The Summer Reading Kick-off party was sponsored by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library and the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). |
