Michele Lewis Artist Michele Faye Lewis grew up in a suburb of Detroit. In order to nurture Michele's talent and love for art, at an early age her mother drove her a considerable distance to the Cranbrook Academy of Art for lessons. As she moved into high school, Michele soon drove her Grandfather’s ‘66 Valiant into downtown Detroit to the Society of Art and Crafts, to draw each afternoon. Leaving Michigan to study painting at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) as an undergraduate, Michele discovered architecture. She moved to Yale for her Master’s degree in Architecture, where she combined her passion for art with her interest in people, cities and the environment. Lewis and Gould Architects was founded over 25 years ago with her husband Jan Gould. They both registered architects and continue to enjoy a successful practice in NYC. Their two daughters, with their own artistic passions, and have taken Michele full circle. Michele has brought her love of drawing and her eye for color, texture and light to the world of architecture. Five years ago, she was literally taken to a painting class by one of her clients. As things happen, Michele now shares a studio with 3 women painters. The studio inspires her to carve out more time to paint; she is elated to be reunited with this great passion. Most paintings and drawings by Michele Lewis are of slices of life; observations of quiet moments of family and friends enjoying being alive. There are also works which capture her fascination with the movement of athletes and dancers. Michele has completed and welcomes commissions. She hopes you enjoy her work.
