The business community has started a beautification program downtown. Inspired by some enterprising local businesses such as the Curtain Shop and Wall Systems Unlimited which planted flowers in front of their stores, the BID has undertaken a program to beautify public spaces throughout downtown. The program has won enthusiastic support and financial backing from the City of New Rochelle, New Roc City, the Kaufman Building, Simone Development and Avalon on the Sound.
The BID has placed large planters filled with a profuse installation of colorful flowers at major intersections and at public spaces such as Anderson Plaza and Memorial Plaza. The planters are professionally maintained throughout the season by the BID. In addition, the BID sponsored the New Rochelle Garden Club's program to plant over eighty tree wells along Main Street with brightly colored annuals. The Garden Club has been working with more than fifty downtown merchants to help maintain and water these flowers with watering cans provided by the BID.
